Learn how transaction speed, exchange rates, and payout methods affect the final amount you receive when selling crypto with Ramp Network

Updated over a week ago

The amount of fiat money you receive as payout is based on the exchange rate at the time your crypto is received and confirmed by the blockchain, not when you initiate the sale.

The faster your crypto transfer, the less likely the exchange rate will change significantly between when you start the transaction and when we receive your crypto.

However, the speed of your crypto transfer isn’t the only factor that can affect the final payout amount. Several other elements can influence the final payout you receive. Below, we’ll explore the key factors that can impact the amount of fiat you get after selling your crypto.

⛓️ Transaction speed and blockchain confirmation

The speed at which your crypto is transferred plays a key role in the final payout. Different cryptocurrencies and blockchains have varying confirmation times, which can impact the exchange rate you receive. Blockchain confirmation times can also be affected by factors like network congestion.

To help ensure a smoother and quicker process, we recommend sending your crypto as soon as possible. However, please note that we cannot control blockchain processing times.Β High network traffic and congestion can also cause delays in blockchain confirmations, potentially affecting the timing and rate of your transaction.

πŸ“ˆ Floating exchange rates & crypto price volatility

Ramp Network uses a floating exchange rate model, where the price of crypto is based on market supply and demand at the time your transaction is completed. As crypto prices can change rapidly, the final payout amount may differ from the initial quote. The exchange rate applied is determined when we receive your crypto and confirm the transaction.

Why do crypto rates fluctuate?

Crypto prices change due to several factors:

  • Market Demand & Supply: High demand or low supply increases prices.

  • Economic Factors: News, regulations, and economic events influence rates.

  • Technological Developments: Blockchain innovations can impact pricing.

  • Market Sentiment: Investor confidence and trends drive volatility.

  • Liquidity: High liquidity leads to stable prices, while low liquidity causes larger swings.

🏷️ Price discovery

To determine fair market prices, Ramp Network aggregates data from over 300 crypto exchanges, covering 30,000+ trading pairs. Additionally, we collaborate with leading crypto price aggregators to ensure accurate pricing.

πŸ’Έ Payout methods

The payout method you choose affects how quickly you receive your funds and the fees applied to the transaction. As a result, the final payout amount may differ depending on the method selected.

Please note that not all payout methods are available in every region. Below is a table showing the time it takes for each payment method to settle and its availability:

πŸ’° May I receive a payout of a different amount than the one quoted?

Here’s a quick recap of what may influence the final payout amount:

  • ⛓️ Transaction Speed & Blockchain Confirmation: The speed of your crypto transfer and blockchain confirmation time can affect when we receive your crypto, potentially influencing the exchange rate.

  • πŸ“ˆ Floating Exchange Rates & Crypto Price Volatility: Since we use a floating exchange rate, market conditions can cause price fluctuations between when you initiate the transaction and when the payout is processed.

  • πŸ’Έ Payout Methods (Fees): Different payout methods may have varying processing speeds and fees, which can affect your final payout amount.

Additionally, fees may also impact the final amount you receive:

  • 🏦 Additional Bank Fees: Certain banks may apply additional fees, especially for international transfers. These can affect the final amount received.

  • πŸ’± Currency Conversion Fees: If your local currency isn’t directly supported by Ramp Network, your payment provider or bank may apply currency conversion fees.
