Experiencing issues with your crypto payments? Whether your transactions are being rejected, payments are failing, or you encounter a grayed-out payment option, we’re here to help you understand why these problems happen and how to fix them.
Why are my crypto purchases being rejected?
If your crypto purchases are being rejected, it could be due to your bank's policies regarding cryptocurrency transactions. Here's why this happens and how to address it:
Bank policies on crypto transactions
Some banks block crypto-related transactions, either as a general policy or based on the transaction amount. This is often done due to the bank’s anti-crypto stance.
When Ramp Network detects a card issued by such a bank, we display an error message saying, "This is not a supported card for crypto purchases. Please provide an alternative card.
Banks known to block crypto transactions:
BBVA (Spain) 🇪🇸
Santander Bank & Affiliates (Spain, Portugal) 🇪🇸🇵🇹
Bank of America (United States) 🇺🇸
JPM Chase & Co (United States) 🇺🇸
Axis Bank (India) 🇮🇳
HDFC Bank (India) 🇮🇳
Sparkasse (Germany) 🇩🇪
Nationwide Bank (UK) 🇬🇧
What to do if your bank blocks your crypto transaction?
Use an alternative card: Try using a different card issued by a bank that doesn’t block crypto purchases.
Try other payment methods: If your card isn't accepted, check for other supported payment methods.
Contact your bank: Reach out to your bank’s customer service to ask about their crypto transaction policy. They may be able to provide more information or assist with the issue.
If you’re certain that your bank did not block the payment, check the next part below.
Why does it keep saying my card payment failed?
If your card payment is failing, there can be several reasons. Let’s go over some of the most common causes and solutions.
Common Issues with Card Payments
Your bank doesn’t support crypto transactions.
Your card doesn’t allow crypto purchases.
You exceeded your card’s daily transaction limit or have insufficient funds.
Your card has expired.
You're using an unsupported card type (we only accept MasterCard and Visa cards).
What to do if your payment keeps failing?
Double-check card details: Ensure all information, including the CVV/CVC number, is correctly entered. A simple mistake like an incorrect number can cause a failure.
Verify 3D Secure (3DS): Make sure 3D Secure is activated for your card. If not, try using a different card.
Check your online banking: Look for any pending debits for the transaction amount. If the funds are deducted but you haven’t received your crypto, contact our support team with a payment confirmation PDF (screenshots aren’t accepted).
Contact your bank: If the issue persists, reach out to your bank’s customer service for assistance. They can help with resolving 3D Secure issues or provide more details about declined transactions.
What to do if your payment fails but your account was charged?
Sometimes, your payment may fail, but your account could still show a charge. This happens because your bank places a temporary hold on the funds for security purposes, even though the transaction wasn’t completed.
This process is managed by your bank, and we don’t have control over it. Below is an explanation of the different statuses you may see in your account/
Payment failed: | Pending payment: |
If you see a failed payment but a charge on your account, it’s likely a temporary hold placed by your bank for security. These funds are not removed and will be automatically released back into your account soon. | A "pending" status means your payment is still being processed. It’s common for debit or credit card transactions to appear as pending until completed, and the funds are typically returned by your bank if the payment doesn’t go through. |
It's important to note that the exact timing of the refund process in such a situation may vary depending on your bank, as they are fully responsible for this process.
If your funds remain locked for more than 3 days, contact your bank directly for assistance. 🏦
